2NE1 (Hangul: 투애니원; RR: tu-aeniwon; pronounced "to anyone"[1] or "twenty-one"[2]) is a South Korean hip hop/pop girl group formed by YG Entertainment in 2009. 2NE1 consists of four members: CL, Bom, Dara, and Minzy. The group's name 2NE1 stands for "New Evolution of the 21st Century".[3] First appearing in "Lollipop", a commercial campaign with Big Bang for LG Telecom, their debut single "Fire" was released on May 6, 2009. Since then, they have released one extended play, 2NE1, and one studio album, To Anyone. Four of their songs, "Fire", "I Don't Care", "Follow Me," and "Go Away" have all hit number one in Korea.

History

The group was first mentioned by the press in late 2008, YG Entertainment announced that the group would consist of four members and debut sometime in May 2009.[4] The company stated that the group had trained for 4 years, and that their debut album would contain songs produced by 1TYM Leader Teddy Park.[4][5][6] The group's name was initially announced as "21"; however, due to the discovery of a singer with the same name, the group was quickly renamed "2NE1".[7]
[edit] 2009: Debut

2NE1's first song was "Lollipop", digitally released on March 27, 2009.[4] The song was created for LG to promote their Cyon phone, and it was a joint release with Big Bang; the commercial/music video debuted on March 28, 2009.[8] Although it was not a promoted single (as it was an advertisement song, there were problems with network chart eligibility[9]), "Lollipop" proved to be a strong chart hit, going to #1 on various online charts[9] and topping music television network M.Net's online chart for four weeks in a row.[10]

On April 30, Yang Hyun Suk revealed that 2NE1's debut song would be a hip-hop/reggae song, and that it would be digitally released on May 6, 2009.[11] Titled "Fire", the song was fully written and produced by 1TYM's Teddy Park.[12][unreliable source?] Teasers of the song were released on their official website at the beginning of May, with a 20-second clip released on May 1.[13]

"Fire" was released as planned on May 6, with two versions of the music video — a "space" version and a "street" version — released the same day.[14] The videos received over one million views in a day.[15] The group's first performance of the song was on May 17, 2009, on SBS's Inkigayo,[16] beginning the group's activities.

"I Don't Care" (2009)
Play sound
"I Don't Care" became 2NE1's most popular single off of their debut extended play, 2NE1 and displayed a softer, more feminine style.

Both the song and the group became popular online, with the song topping M.Net's online chart and the group's name becoming a top search term.[17] The group was also rewarded with three Cyworld Digital Music Awards, with both "Lollipop" and "Fire" winning "Song of the Month" awards and the group winning "Rookie of the Month" for May 2009.[18] They received their first Mutizen award during their fourth stage performance in SBS Inkigayo (Popular Song) on June 14, 2009. They received their second Mutizen award on SBS Inkigayo on June 21, 2009. Along with their awards successes, 2NE1 signed a deal with Fila to become the new models for their commercial campaign 2 days after 2NE1's Mutizen win.[19]

"I Don't Care" was released as the second single on July 1, 2009,[20] with promotions starting in early July.[21] YG Entertainment CEO Yang Hyun Suk stated at the time that the song would demonstrate a softer, more feminine image.[20]

An reggae version of "I Don't Care" was performed on SBS's Inkigayo music show, signaling the end of promotions for the song.[22] However, due to the remix's popularity, it was released to digital outlets on September 3, 2009 and became their next digital single.[22]

Along with three other groups representing Korea, 2NE1 performed in the 6th Asia Song Festival in September 2009, where they received the 2009's "Asian Newcomer's Award."[23]
[edit] 2010: Return to group activities, and To Anyone

On February 9, 2010, "Follow Me" (Korean: "날 따라 해봐요", "Nal ddara haebwayo") was released to digital outlets, without prior notice and was used as a theme song for Samsung Corby Folder.[24] Over the summer, 2NE1 traveled to Los Angeles, California in order to record English songs for a possible American debut with The Black Eyed Peas member will.i.am. The group has recorded ten songs thus far.[25] YG Entertainment CEO Yang Hyun Suk stated that the girls are planned to debut sometime in 2011, after the Black Eyed Peas global tour and their own activities in Korea and Japan.[26]

"Go Away" (2010)

"Go Away" hit number one in Korea, being the only lead single to do so of the three.

The first studio and full length album, To Anyone, was slated for release on September 9, 2010 and was a big success.[27] The album contains 12 tracks including three title songs, namely "Clap Your Hands" (Korean: "박수 쳐"), "Go Away" and "Can't Nobody", which were promoted simultaneously. They won first place on Mnet M! Countdown for "Clap Your Hands" on the day of their comeback, followed by a K-Chart win the next day on KBS Music Bank for "Go Away", and a mutizen a week after their SBS Inkigayo comeback for "Can't Nobody." Overall, 2NE1 had gained first place eleven times on the various music shows.[28]

To promote the album, the group made its first entertainment show appearance as a group on KBS variety-talk show Win Win.[29] 2NE1 also aired the second season of 2NE1 TV.

On October 21, Yang Hyun Suk announced that 2NE1 would be releasing a follow up song on October 31, later revealed to be "It Hurts (Slow)" (Korean: "아파").[30][31] It would be first performed on SBS Inkigayo. The music video for the song is directed by Kim Hye Jung, the same director for G-Dragon's "Butterfly." The music video was released on November 1 and was themed for Halloween.[32]

In addition, on October 28, it was revealed that 2NE1's official record label in Japan will be Avex, and that To Anyone would be re-released in Japan on December 8, 2010. However, the release was delayed to an indefinite time.[33] The group also promoted in Thailand, where To Anyone released on October 23, 2010.[34] Later, on November 26, 2NE1 released the single "Don't Stop the Music".[35]

"Fire" (2009)
Play sound
2NE1 debuted with a strong hip-hop sound in "Fire," a song that topped Korea's monthly chart.

In 2NE1's debut extended play 2NE1, the group was noted for a distinct style. "Lollipop" is noted for it's strong pop feel, while debut single "Fire" is predominately categorized as hip hop. "I Don't Care," however, was intended as a song with a reggae feel.[36]

Their comeback album, To Anyone, was marked by a strong shift into electronic music. "Go Away", the most successful promotional single from the album, is classified as dance.[37] However, songs like "It Hurts (Slow)" are R&B, a style that characterized their first EP.[38] The three title tracks, "Clap Your Hands," "Go Away," and "Can't Nobody" were noted for their lasting impressions, as they topped music charts weeks after release.[39]

Thematically, 2NE1's music expresses the feelings of independence and female empowerment. Songs like "Go Away" and "I Don't Care" reflect this theme of their music.[40]
[edit] Image

2NE1 is known for a "unique and edgier style".[41] During their debut single, the group was noted for being "hip hop warriors," but changed this perception with "I Don't Care" into strong, feminine women.[20] During the "It Hurts (Slow)" music video, the members were noted for their gothic, black attire[42] and strange hair and wigs.[43]In addition, the members have also been known for having a unique femininity and cuteness.[44] They are also known for being international stars as part of the Hallyu, or Korean Wave.[45]
[edit] Influences

The members of 2NE1 have all cited different influences. Park Bom, lead vocalist, cited American singers Beyoncé and Mariah Carey as her main influences because of their strong vocals and powerful performances. She has listed hip hop and R&B as her favorite music genres.[46] Youngest member Minzy cited famous entertainer Michael Jackson, while leader CL said producer Teddy Park and singer Uhm Jung Hwa were her inspirations.[47] CL has also said that entertainers Madonna and Lauryn Hill are her role models.[48]

Shin Se Kyung and Jong Hyun

Shin Se Kyung and Jong Hyun from SHINee are dating!

It has been confirmed that Shin Se Kyung (21) and Jong Hyun from SHINee (21) are dating. Photos which SportsSeoul.com took of the couple, makes them look like an ordinary couple.

Shin Se Kyung and Jong Hyun have been dating usually in SamSungDong. Even though both are very busy with their schedules, whenever they had time, they met up and spent some time together. Usually it was Jong Hyun visitng Shin Se Kyung and them taking a walk together.

They also admitted that they cannot meet frequently and Jong Hyun tries to avoid his fan's eyes and they meet at night. They also said that all they do is take walks around the house or at the park.

Even after 20days of spotting them together, all they do is take walks. One day when Shin Se Kyung had a conference for the new movie "Acoustic", Jong Hyun met her outside her house as she was just returning.

These two have become closer thanks to their common interest in music. For the 20 days they have been listening to music as they walked. Jong Hyun shared an earphone together and enjoyed a moment with just two of them together.

Someone who knows this couple well said "Not only they are the same age, their hobbies are really similar. This helped them become close in a short period of time."

Since they cannot meet frequently due to schedules, they send text messages to each other frequently.

He also said "They are both busy with our new albums and works. In addition, Jong Hyun is living with his SHINee members. He cannot afford to spend too much time with her. They call each other often"

Shin Se Kyung and Jong Hyun first met last May in a concert. After that, they met coincidentally and became friends, and recently became couples. Both companies of Shin Se Kyung and Jong Hyun announced that, "This is just the beginning for them. They have really good feelings for each other" and confirmed that they are dating

Onew Lee Jinki Leader of SHINee profile

Lee Jin Ki or Onew is the leader and oldest member of Korea Boy Band SHINee. Onew was discovered at the “2006 S.M. Academy Casting”. Onew collaborated with Lee Hyun Ji, former member of project group Banana Girl, for her song “Vanilla Love”. He was also featured in a duet, entitled One Year Later “1년 後”, with Girls’ Generation member Jessica for their mini-album Tell Me Your Wish.

Onew is the leader of Shinee. Alongside Jonghyun & Key he plays the role in being one of the lead vocals. From the reality show YunHaNamDul his gag ‘Onew Condition’ where he spaces out or does random things that make no sense in the situation he’s in – Shinee have made it an illness for him (lol) Onew condition has also been found to be contagious.

SHINee’s Onew gets Swine Flu and Onew Sangtae

The curse of the swine flu seems to have struck SHINee. Having only just reported hours earlier that Jonghyun had recovered fully from swine flu, it was reported now that SHINee’s leader, Onew has also been hit by it.

The announcement came at around 6pm on 7th November as it was reported that Onew had developed a gentle, mild fever last night. He was sent to the hospital today and tests have shown that he has contracted swine flu.

Onew has been prescribed Tamiflu and is now back home resting.

The other three SHINee members, Key, Minho and Taemin were also tested for precaution, and neither of them have shown any symptoms of the illness fortunately.

So that explains why SHINee wasn’t performing on Music Core as scheduled today.

So with Onew at home resting, it might look like SHINee will be performing as a 4-member group instead on the 8th November episode of Inkigayo. But it was revealed that Super Junior’s leader, Leeteuk will take the place of Onew for tomorrow.

Onew and SHINee ideal Girl

SHINee revealed their ideal girl types on Kim Jung Eun’s Chocolate. Out of the five, Onew made the most surprising choice.

Onew said, “Lee Young Hyun (from Big Mama) is my ideal type. Starting at a young age, I loved listening to Big Mama’s Resignation. Her voice is so nice. My ideal type is someone who has a nice voice and soft hands and she fits into those categories.”

I have to go with Onew on this one. Resignation is an amazing song, definitely a k-pop classic.

Minho’s revealed, “I like Kim Tae Hee. She’s smart, pretty and has a charming smile.” For Jonghyun chose Han Chae Young, stating, “I saw her once at an awards show and she was so beautiful.”

Lastly, Key expressed, “I like Kim Jung Eun. She’s very pretty and honest.” He rained on Kim Jung Eun’s parade by adding, “When Lovers in Paris was on, I was in elementary school.” He did a great job making her feel nice and old, eh?

Sadly, Taemin was not present but the rest put on an amazing show for everyone. I guess we can all speculate… maybe he’s got requited feelings for Brown Eyed Girl leader Jea? Scandalous!

SNSD’s Jessica and SHINee’s Onew Get Together on single “One Year Later”

SNSD’s Jessica and Shinee’s Onew performed on MBC’s ‘Music Core’ on August 1. The song they performed together is ‘One Year Later,’ which is included in SNSD’s second mini album.

‘One Year Later’ is a song about two lovers that break up over a trivial matter and then happen to see each other a year later.

Nichkhun Scandal

Nich Khun’s 1st episode of Mnet’s Scandal is out! Nich Khun’s new girlfriend’s name is Kim Min Sun and the lucky girl got to call Nich Khun her boyfriend for a whole week. The couple went out to eat, ice skating, and went to Lotte World

Base on a love story between an ordinary person and a superstar as in the hit movie, “Nothing Hill”, a new TV program called “Mnet Scandal” on Mnet channel has recently become a talk of the town after airing its first two episodes.

2PM Nichkhun Horvejkul

And in its third episode, Nichkhun of 2PM will play a boyfriend role to a girl who is close to his ideal type. Nichkhun had told the program that he prefers an older or same age girl whom he can talk freely with. He likes a girl who eats well and can make him crave for food just watching she eats. On a date, he just wants to go to a theme park and holds her hands while skating on an ice skating rings together.

However, Mnet channel has been bombarded with hundred of phone calls from Nichkhun fans after the preview of the 3rd episode, where he is seen having a date scenes just like he had pictured, was showed to public. Some fans raged and showed envious remarks to the girl who was picked to be Nichkhun’s girlfriend. Some fans protested the show while some showed their interest in watching the program.

Mnet Scandal’s Nichkhun episode will be aired for two weeks on Wednesday night of May 20th and 27th, at 11:00 pm (korean time) on Mnet channel.

Nichkhun Scandal Part Two revealed

Seeing how confident Nichkhun is with Kim Min Sun, we can say for sure that Nichkhun sure knows how to treat them ladies. With his adorable charm, what girl (and boy?) wouldn’t drop down on their knees in a split second? I give Kim Min Sun props for being able to control her inner fangirlness, but the show would’ve been more entertaining if the girl didn’t control herself so well – a nervous klutz who did stupid things around him would’ve kept me laughing. Finally after their seven days of making love, the two split, like a banana split.. Speaking of bananas, I wonder if.. nevermind. Unfortunately, these videos don’t have subs yet. But who cares about the words, just watching Nichkhun will make you satisfied.. or in this case, make you want to rip the chick into pieces. Chicken strips anyone?
